Jam Wu was born in Tainan in 1979. A graduate in architecture from the Shih Chien University, he is also a poet, a photographer, a theater designer and an artist. He is inspired deeply by his childhood memories of his riverside home town, Yan Hsui. After winning many awards, he went to the north of Shaanxi province in China to learn paper-cutting and has transformed this traditional craftsmanship into a language of contemporary art, expressed in installations, lighting, images and public art. Five Regulations
Two artists who live their lives separately in Paris and in London decided to exchange three clips of footages and each make an independent video based on the six clips and five regulations that they agreed upon.
The same imagery, through various interpretations, developed into different narratives.Both stories are left open for further imagination and understanding, it can be said that the work ends in the interpretation of the spectators.
< Five Regulations >
1) The video must be in black and white
2) It must be without sound
3) The fixed length of the finished work must be about 5 minutes
4) Every single clip has to be used in the finished work
5) It has to end in a tragedy
Things memory-the night market in two cities,taichung at Stock 20
Things memory-the night market in two cities計畫將這些尋常物件,透過特殊燈光與展台的鋪陳,再次地於夜間呈現另一番風景,在博物展示的手法下進行著收集、排列與組合,閃爍的光影加上紫外線的照射,讓物顯露了主體的輪廓與塑料材質的特性,物的剪影消弭了自身的功能價值,折返回純粹的幾何造形,而材質的反光性標示著物不同於日常的樣貌,呈現庶民文化中的視覺美感經驗。 |
